Walchelin (also know as Walkelin, or Vualchelin) de Ferrires was a Norman nobleman, probably from Ferrires-Saint-Hilaire, Eure in Normandy and the earliest known ancestor of the Ferrers or de Ferrers family.
He also built castles at Duffield and Pilsbury. Ingenulf died sometime after 1101 who was in turn succeeded by Henry II died sometime after 1136. Walchelin married Mahaut De Durburg Ferrers.
As a leading Norman magnate, Henry de Ferrers was followed to England by a coterie of lesser lords, or vassals, who were part of the feudal structure of Normandy and who owed their allegiance to their overlord.
He died between around 1035 and 1045 in Normandie, France. He was a key administrator in Derbyshire and Staffordshire, and among the most powerful AngloNorman magnates.
